“Rescued” is an amazing allegory because it accomplishes the most difficult task of any allegory: it is full of surprises! I found the narrative to be as suspenseful as a suspense story. This is amazing because in an allegory the reader immediately starts matching the characters up with the story or tradition the allegory is based on. This is the Christian story of redemption and finding one’s way into God’s kingdom. With only three major characters and a well known underlying story, it would seem almost impossible to keep the story fresh, unpredictable, worrisome, and entertaining. Yet I found the story to be all these things and more.

I’m not sure what I enjoyed the most: the story as an allegory or how the author was able to provide enough twists and turns to keep me riveted to my Kindle!
